Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the major trends in scholarship about historical changes in firm organization in the semiconductor industry, the technological and commercial needs of the semiconductor core industry, and the complex issues of open source licensing in the context of semiconductor cores. Thus, my aim in this paper is to examine the commercial use of open source cores, the incorporation of a GPL-licensed soft core, and the development and distribution of open source cores.
