Summary/Abstract: During the first three centuries of Christianity’s existence, until the peace of Constantine the Great, the Church developed under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in a hostile environment. Jewish opposition and Roman fears combined against the Christians in a misunderstanding of the message of Christ’s Gospel. Nevertheless, the period of persecutions did not prevent the development of the Church, causing not only human suffering, but also spiritual revival among Christians, triggering the attraction of those living in pagan society. Loving your God with total devotement until death, stirred many souls, who thereby truly discovered the meaning of their own existence. The awareness of the possibility of loving other humans, seen as a way to love God, and the feeling of full communion with Him were the inner impulse for a radical change of which any human is capable. This transformation assured the continuity of the Church during the bloody periods through which it had to go. From the time of the declaration of free expression for the Christian faith, the Church was fully organized to begin the evangelization of the entire world.
