Summary/Abstract: One of the main tasks that the restored Bulgarian state facedafter its Liberation was to build a strong and capable army. The military strengthwas considered to be the main guarantor for the realization of the Bulgariannational ideal – the liberation of the enslaved brothers in Thrace and Macedonia,and the complete unification of the Bulgarian people into one state. At thebeginning of the 20th century Bulgaria took part in three wars, during whichthousands of Bulgarian officers showed their courage and sacrifice. Some of thosenames, such as Generals Georgi and Vladimir Vazovi, Stefan Toshev, NikolaZhekov, Kliment Boyadzhiev and others, are well known today. At the same timeanother group of officers who also had significant contributions, both on thebattlefield and in the public life are almost unknown to today. In this paper, thebiography of one of these “forgotten” Bulgarian officers will be presented. Hisname is Kircho Iliev Kirchev. Here are some highlights from his military andpublic biography
