Summary/Abstract: Samuel Hearne (1745–1792) had reached the coastline of the Northern Pacific Ocean in 1772, and he recorded his journey and his observations in his work titled A Journey from Prince of Wales’s Fort in Hudson’s Bay to the Northern Ocean in the Years 1769, 1770,1771, 1772 (1795). In the present study, in addition to presenting Samuel Hearne and his work, I analyze the living conditions of the Denesuline, an Aboriginal tribe helping Hearne on his way and, especially, his chief native associate, Matonabee, and his life story. At the end of the study, a translation from the source is provided.
