Summary/Abstract: This paper outlines the career of the humanist Girolamo Donato (1456–1511). It briefly presents his political activities for the Republic of Venice, his various leadership positions and legations, and the pinnacle of his career: his key role in the creation of the League of Venice (1511). Next, the article describes his poetic, philosophical, theological works and translations. Finally, it gives an account on his scholar friends and his reputation among the humanists as well as his posthumous fame.
