Summary/Abstract: Doina Cornea is a Romanian dissident who impressed the western public opinion with her fragility, but also by the daring attitude she showed towards the regime. She was arrested in 1987, but this did not stop her in her actions. Foreign politicians and journalists are interested in her fate, which makes her famous in the West. This protected her from the cruel revenge of the Security. Foreigners who tried to contact her during 1988-1989 were treated violently, in the same manner she herself was treated. This brutal treatment only increased criticism over the Ceausescu regime, which had become detested in most chancelleries around the world.
