Celebrating the 70th anniversary of His Beatitude Father Daniel, the Patriarch of Romania

Summary/Abstract: On 22 July 2021, His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel celebrated his 70th anniversary. The festivities began on the previous day, 21 July 2021, in Aula Magna „Patriarch Teoctist” of the Patriarchal Palace, with homage paid at the conclusion of the work session of the Holy Synod. On this occasion, His Eminence Metropolitan Teofan eulogized the personality of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and offered him, on behalf of the members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, some gifts with symbolic significance. In turn, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel gifted each hierarch books and the commemorative diplomas for the year 2021 and gave a thanksgiving speech. The festivities dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Romania’s Patriarch continued during the following day, 22 July – the anniversary proper, with the celebration in the Cathedral Patriarchal of the Holy Liturgy and a Te Deum service, thanking God for His blessings and support granted to His Beatitude in shepherding the Romanian Orthodox Church. After the Te Deum service, His Eminence Metropolitan Teofan read out the Anniversary Act issued by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church and offered to His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, on behalf of the clergy and faithful of our Church, an icon of the Most Holy Trinity. Finally, His Beatitude gave a thanksgiving speech. The ceremonies held in the Patriarchal Cathedral and the Summer Altar, continued according to the program in Aula Magna „in Aula Magna „Patriarch Teoctist” of the Patriarchal Palace, with the presentation of congratulatory messages from the main institutions of the state, and the launch of a volume and documentary film dedicated to the anniversary of the Patriarch of Romania. On this occasion also, the President of Romania, Mr Klaus Werner Iohannis, awarded at Cotroceni Palace to His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel the National Order of the Star of Romania – Collar Rank, in recognition of his outstanding contribution in shepherding the Romanian Orthodox Church in Romania and in the diaspora, and his important role in promoting interdenominational and interreligious dialogue.
