Summary/Abstract: Records of Wei: An Account of the Wa people (魏志倭人傳) For the first time in Hungarian, this work presents a very brief study and a translation of “Gishi Wajinden”, which is considered fundamental to the knowledge of Japan’s ancient history. “Gishi Waijiden” is the Japanese title for the “An Account of the Wa” chapter of the Records of the Three Kingdoms – Book of Wei, written by historian Chen Shou of the Jin Dynasty. This chapter is a record of how the Japanese were viewed by the Chinese at the end of the 3rd century AD, and it is notable for having recorded the Japanese Kingdom of Wa, most importantly the ancient Japanese state of Yamatai, as well as its queen Himiko and her successor Iyo/Toyo. Ancient China (and the Korean Kingdoms) helped shape the early Japanese states in many ways over centuries of immigration and cultural exchange. This translation may prove to be a valuable resource for students, scholars, and general readers with an interest in Japanese history and culture.
