Summary/Abstract: This article reconstructs the biography and activity of Laura Guérin, née Brzezińska (1817-1883), the owner and principal of a boarding school for girls, one of the best private educational institutions in Warsaw in the second half of the XIX century. For thirty-eight years, Guérin’s pedagogical and educational activity inspired the conservative, patriotic and religious programme of her school. Guérin had shaped three subsequent generations of women, active in social, educational, cultural, and religious spheres. By presenting Guérin’s life and the ways in which her legacy was honoured by diverse students, the article outlines the forgotten traditions of girls’ and women’s education in Poland.
