Summary/Abstract: The system of self government in the Republic of Macedonia is in the process of reforms. The decentralization is recognized as one of the most important political agendas that Government of Macedonia is faced with, with increased need for its implementation, both in international and local context. Besides the quantum of interesting data and findings, the authors of this article are giving a general overview of the local government and the current progress of the decentralization, analysis of the functioning from the aspect of authorities and financing, and finally – pointing the major directions and perspectives of the decentralization in the local self governments in the Republic of Macedonia.
