Summary/Abstract: Romania has an impressive seismic regime, characterized by the large number of earthquakes produced annually, with epicenters in several areas of the country, as well as the occurrence, at intervals of 30-40 years, of strong earthquakes in the Vrancea area. The essential characteristic of the earthquakes in the Vrancea region (the area most affected by significant earthquakes in Romania) is that their epicenters are distributed in a very small area in relation to other seismic areas in the world.Earthquakes happen when they want. We cannot intervene in the endogenous mechanisms of their production. They belong to the physiognomy and philosophy of the planet. But the prevention and liquidation of the effects produced by them falls on us, the people.
