Summary/Abstract: On the History of the Church in Central and Southeastern Europe After making available the Vatican archives from the period of the pontificate of Pope Pius XII (1939–1958), the authenticity of the so-called Mexican faculties, i.e., the extraordinary measures for the situation of persecution of the Church provided by this Pope to the particular Churches at the time of the establishment of the communist regimes, was verified last year. These extraordinary faculties followed on from special faculties from the period of the Second World War. Representatives of the later hidden Church in Czechoslovakia often referred to the so-called Mexican faculties. The latest study of the Vatican archives confirmed the instructions for the Vice-Provincial of the Slovak Jesuits concerning secret episcopal ordinations.
