Summary/Abstract: In the face of climate change and possible conflicts caused by water shortages, raisingpublic awareness about the importance of urban rivers constitutes an importantchallenge. The article proposes a theoretical reflection on the rapidly growing researchfield known as water heritage. By treating rivers as a commonality of different life formsassociated with a specific space, the project seeks approaches that emphasize positiveforms of local adaptation, cooperation, and reciprocity. The highlighting of such humanactions in past social practices could provide a reference point for contemporary rescueand prevention initiatives. The author illustrates assumptions of the presented researchperspective with a critical analysis of Oskar Hansen’s project for the development of theformer Warta riverbed in Poznań.
