Summary/Abstract: The article interprets Dariusz Czaja’s original take on the phenomenon of art presented inhis collection Cena sztuki. Tezy o zaczarowaniu (The Price of Art: Theses on Enchantment),which forms a coherent alternative to the scientistic paradigm, one elaborated by Czajain his many works. The article indicates the most important ideas of Czaja’s project,which link the texts in Cena sztuki, including the belief in the objective existence ofart, the nonhistorical quality of the phenomenon of art, and the irreducibility of artto linguistic expression. A closer look at the themes allows us to understand why theproposal to return to the notion of a work or masterpiece stems from a rather unexpectedplace, as it is introduced by an anthropologist.
