Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of the narrator in the novel Devils by F. M. Dostoevsky. In one part of the novel, the narration is limited by the knowledge of the chronicler of the events, Anton Lavrentievich G-v, who, as the novel character, tells the story in which he participates. In the second part of the novel, the chronicler unexpectedly obtains the characteristics of an omniscient narrator. The change in the narrator’s knowledge is a consequence of the existence of two narrative voices, the chronicler-confidant, and the chronicler-author. Analysis of narrative voices reveals the presence of two novels in the novel Devils by F. M. Dostoevsky.
