Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the historical genesis and development of the electoral system in Bulgaria (1878 – 2014 AD). The key stages in the evolution of Bulgarian electoral system and its specific features are highlighted. Special attention is paid to the various types of electoral systems used in the so called „Democratic transition“ or after the collapse of the totalitarian regime in 1989.
