Summary/Abstract: By presenting the folklorised poetry of Serbian poets in the period of sevdah (1880–1903), the author gives, in the introductory part of the paper, a particular interpretation of the terms sevdah (with the folklore region where it emerged), sevdalinka as an anonymous varoš song, and the Serbian art sevdalinka. He deals with the Belgrade poet club, the founder of the Serbian art sevdalinka Jovan Ilić, the poetics of this genre, and Ilić’s followers. Ten Belgrade poets, the creators of poetic sevdalinkas, are mentioned, though there were many more of them. The songs of these poets were written in notations of Croatian collectors, whose names are not mentioned. The poems were identified and authorised, and the sources and comments are given. The final part of the paper contains two songs of one female poet and one male poet. Several other poets are stated in the addendum and corrigenda. The majority of poets from this period are stated for the first time. Nine new male and two new female poets are presented, and the addendum contains one male, earlier mentioned poet, and two new urban traditional male poets whose poems were wrongly authorised. Two more chapters that are part of the sevdah period (kafana-bohemian and theatre songs) are to be analysed on another occasion. All this indicates the degree to which the Serbian art sevdalinka developed in Belgrade and Serbia in the course of the last two decades of the 19th century.
