Summary/Abstract: Romania’s involvement in Middle East issues, its pertinent position during the Six-Day War, then the efforts to establish a Romanian channel for negotiations during the war of attrition, 1969-1971, and the stand taken in the wake of the Yom Kippur War represented attempts to break free from the suffocating Soviet guardianship, to conduct a foreign policy of its own, taking advantage of changes in the international political arena. The moves of the Romanian state led to its recognition as a partner to the countries in the Middle East.
