Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to analyze and define the relationship between El primer nueva coronica i buen gobierno, the crónica de Indias written and illustrated by Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala, a runa (native American) from the Viceroyalty of Peru of the XVI and XVII centuries and Novísima corónica i mal gobierno, a graphic novel written and illustrated by Miguel Det, a contemporary Peruvian illustrator and cartoonist. The first part of this paper briefly presents the theoretical framework, i.e. Linda Hutcheon’s definitions of parody, satire and possible hybrid genres (such as satirical parody and parodistic satire). Next, the premises that allow to link the graphic novel with the chronicle are presented in order to analyze the connection between the two texts by focusing on both their graphic form (drawing style, page’s composition, type of font, etc.) and their ideological and political aspects. Finally, following Hutcheon’s concepts we aim at determining the genre of Novisima corónica i mal gobierno, as well as indicating how Guaman’s Poma crónica de Indias may affect possible interpretations of the graphic novel.
