Summary/Abstract: The Stakhanovist movement was initiated by the Soviet leadership seeking to increase productivity and improve technology in an economic system that could not make any progress except based on volunteer work. Despite the giant propaganda effort, the results were minor, so in the 50s the movement lost its momentum.
