Summary/Abstract: The author is professor of sociology at the University of Bucharest. The study places the totalitarian experience within the European context. Based on the culturalist papadigm model of explaining "the birth of totalitarianism", the author analyses two main experiences, traditionalism and modernism, as an attempt to identify the origin of the European anarchism.
