Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the text is to point out the different attitudes towards mastering the first language in the Bulgarian diaspora in Czechia and the degree of awareness of the need for teaching of Bulgarian in the society where the main language is different from Bulgarian. The results of a longitudinal study, including dozens of respondents from different social strata of the diaspora, are presented and their language attitudes are analyzed. The text shows different points of view regarding bilingualism, bilingual education and the maintenance and development of the native Bulgarian language in a foreign language environment.
