An Attempt at Autoethnography

Summary/Abstract: The attempted auto-ethnography reaches back to the oldest patterns embedded inanthropological field research. The paper concerns locality as an environmental specificity,a foundation of culture and, at the same time, a force shaping the researcher and her/his work. I understand autoethnography as a report not so much on personal „matters”as on the conditions and situations that are their background. My auto-ethnographyis eventually a description of culture sketched from the point of view of a humanistembedded geobiographically - familially and emotionally - in a region whose specificvalues were shaped under the overwhelming influence of an economy based on heavyindustry.
