Summary/Abstract: Foreign languages are seen as an important element of modern education, both formal and informal. There are many methods and techniques that determine the process of language teaching, its effectiveness and durability. In today’s world characterized by dynamic changes, the ability to conduct language self-training seems extremely useful. The first part of this article concentrates on the concept of multilingualism discussing it typically from the perspective of language learning. Thus, its general definitions and characteristics are provided. Later on, the differences in learning of other foreign languages are mentioned. The next part refers to the notion of autonomy, its role in the learning process, as well as the features of the autonomous learner are described. The article focuses on the use of elements previously known and proven in the process of learning another language.
