Summary/Abstract: The history of construction supervision dates to 1928 when the first building control was established. On the other hand, the currently functioning authorities of building control were established in 1999 as part of the public administration reform as departments of control for the correctness of theconstruction process. They were set up as control units. Unfortunately, due to staff and financial shortages, as well as too frequent changes in legal regulations, they cannot fully perform the tasks assigned to them. According to the audit of the Supreme Audit Office, authorities of buildingcontrol are not able to control compliance with the provisions of the Building Law Act, and the inspections, apart from mandatory ones, are carried out selectively and only on the initiative of third parties. The above confirms that the legal position of building control authorities requires rapid and radical changes that would strengthen these authorities and enable them to perform their statutory tasks. The article aims to identify problems in the scope of performance of tasks by the building control authorities and proposals for legal changes in this area.
