Summary/Abstract: The obsessive theme of the Algerian war keeps Georges Perec writing in the need of finding traces of his past. The short novel”Quel petit vélo à guidon chrome au fond de la cour?”shows the attempts of a young soldier, who is guided by a group of intellectuals, trying to avoid to be taken on the battle field. Perec plays with words, phrases and uses a lot of repetition just to induce the burlesque of the situation, mixing a dose of revolutionary politics with his own ideas concerning Second World War and giving concrete images of his life, as the presence of the train station, the famous Gare de Lyon where he last saw his mother. The ironical eye of the death who is always hunting him is the main theme.
