Summary/Abstract: A first rank personality of the political and cultural life in Romania, dating back to its starting modernization, Vasile Alecsandri was a subject to controversies about his biographical details among which the ones dealing with his birth place and date are the most significant. Some literary historians stated that his birth date might have been July, 21st, 1821, during his family refuge journey from Bacău to Târgu-Ocna, being afraid of the attacks of the revolutionaries lead by Tudor Vladimirescu. Further research in the archives demonstrated that his real date of birth is June 14th, 1818 and his birth place is the city of Bacău. This paper deals with this approach bringing to light revealing documents reactivated in 2018, when the real bicentenary of Vasile Alecsandri’s anniversary was celebrated.
