Summary/Abstract: In the article the origin and development of one of the most ancient and permanent parts of the Byzantine liturgical ritual – litany are traced. Its place and species are considered. The importance of the litanies in the synergy between man and God through the intercession of the Mother of God and the saints is emphasized.
