Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to initially identify the main areas of interest in the subject of the concept of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) with prior indication of the reasons for interest in this topic resulting from changes in economic sciences. The author begins the analysis by noticing the need for changes in science and the need to challenge the status quo. It indicates the most current topic that stimulates international discussions, which is sustainable development. She also draws attention to the interest in the problem of combining two seemingly mutually exclusive perspectives - the desire for profit and the need for moderation - and emphasizes the increased interest in this topic in the 20th century. The second part of the article explains the concept of ESG. The author presents - based on the literature on the subject - the definition, historical outline, advantages and disadvantages of this concept. The results of the analysis are the general basis for recommendations regarding the use of the ESG concept to stimulate the competitiveness of the company from the perspective of investors and encourage further research on its essence.
