Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the issue of storing nuclear weapons in the Polish territory. It is connected with the implementation of tactical and operational-tactical rocket complexes to the weaponry of the Polish Army in the first half of the 1960s. The main task of these complexes was to transfer nuclear warheads. In the Warsaw Pact’ and NATO’s war doctrine of the time, tactical nuclear weapons were recognized as playing the primary role in striking the enemy’s armies and objects of strategic importance. Because of the complicated rules of transporting and storing tactical nuclear weapons, it was decided in the mid-1960s to locate three nuclear weaponry depots in the Polish territory to keep the weapons for the rocket units and air forces of the Polish People’s Republic Army. By the end of the decade, these structures were built and handed over for usage to the special units of the Soviet Army. The project got the code name “Vistula” and was the best-guarded secret that had not been revealed until the first decade of the 21st century.
