Summary/Abstract: Jan Opieliński „Wojsznar” was born on the 2nd of October 1892 in Warsaw, in an intelligentsia family. He passed the secondary school final exams in the private Trade School of the Merchants Union and then enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Lviv. He was a student of the lower officers’ school in Lviv, and a member of the Riflemen’s Association. In the years 1914–1915 he fought in the 1st Brigade of the Polish Legions, where he was promoted to the rank of the second lieutenant. As a trusted officer he was delegated by Józef Piłsudski to expand the Polish Military Organisation. After the Oath crisis he was a member of the Convention of Organisation A and also served as the Main Commander of PMO, and then as Commander of Main Headquarters No. 4 in Lublin. In this city he was in charge of disarming the partitioners’ armies in Autumn of 1918. He was also involved in political activity as a member of the Polish Peasant Party „Wyzwolenie [Liberation]”. He died in Lublin on the 4th of November 1918.
