Summary/Abstract: The Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising from 1903 and its aftermath pose many questions regarding the relations between the Government of the Principality of Bulgaria and the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMARO). IMARO’s (VMORO) financing by the Governments of Bulgaria is a crucial aspect of their relations. The author examines the different aspects of the topic on the basis of substantial evidence. He arrives at the conclusion that the financial and military aid, which the Governments of Bulgaria provided for the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization between 1903 and 1908, was impressive in its bulk, in terms of both quantity and quality. Despite the multiple subjective political factors in the Principality, and the incessant crisis in the IMARO, the better part of that aid was effectively used for the needs of the liberating movement. With the moral and material support of the Bulgarian Cabinets, the IMARO was able to restore its military capacity, to preserve its fighting capacity and its importance in the complicated Macedonian-Adrianople Issue even in the years of hardship following the Ilinden events.
