Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the poeticism of novels that were published in a short sequence in 1922 and that show several affinities: Továrna na absolutno (The Absolute at Large) by Karel Čapek and Velkovýroba ctnosti (The Mass Production of Virtue) by Jiří Haussmann. The two proses hold a special position in the works of their authors as Čapek’s debut novel and Haussman’s only novel within his modest oeuvre because of his premature death. The two novels’ narratives evolve from a technical discovery and its subsequent misuse, causing a worldwide war. The texts also use the same genres, being satirical anti-utopian proses. The introductory genological note is followed by the narration manner, composition, space-time, and thematic structure of the novels. This comparison results in common and different features of the two literary works responding to the recently terminated Great War and the post-war crisis.
