Summary/Abstract: Constant competitive pressure, rising raw material prices and increasing production costs, as well as problems in international supply chains pose additional challenges for companies from various industries and are the reason why many of them are focusing on production reorganization. The term nearshoring – a process of relocation of production or other eco-nomic activity to geographically and culturally close countries – is becoming more and more common. The relocation of production or expansion of production capacity to another country is associated with foreign investment. Bulgaria has all the characteristics of an attractive nearshoring destination and unrealized capacity in terms of inclusion in the supply chains of European companies. Taking advantage of the country's strengths, there are a number of opportunities for attracting foreign direct investment from companies seeking to shorten supply chains and invest in countries offering all the benefits of the single European market.
