Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the effects of the Governmental Road Development Fund as a newly created financial mechanism meant to contribute to the development of local roads in Poland. The study covers the years 2019–2020. The analysis is based on statistical data provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure, legal acts, and literature concerning the subject. The study uses the monographic and comparative methods, and the descriptive and tabular methods to present the results. The Governmental Road Development Fund is a long-term mechanism which is supposed to contribute to the creation of a coherent network of local roads in Poland within 10 years. In the first years of its operation, there was great interest of local governments in the resources offered by the Governmental Road Development Fund. In the analyzed period, 7492 tasks related to the reconstruction andmodernization of local roads were carried out through the Fund’s resources. In 2020, a significant increase in the use of the Fund’s resources was recorded compared to 2019 – from 85 to 93%. The use of the Fund’s resources in individual voivodeships varied. The biggest use of the Fund’s resources in 2019 was noted in the following voivode- ships: Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Wielkopolskie, and in 2020 in Zachodniopomorskie, Lubuskie,Pomorskie, and Kujawsko-Pomorskie. The lowest level of use of funds in 2019 was characteristic of the following regions: Pomorskie, Warmińsko-Mazurski and Dolnośląski, in 2020 Świętokrzyski, Dolnośląski, Podlaski and Warmińsko-Mazurskie.
