Summary/Abstract: The starting position of the text is the hypothesis that in the period of the communist regime 1944–1989 there was an underground culture, respectively underground stories about the past, about contemporary, occurring mainly abroad events, as well as views about the future. In the conditions of an imposed official version of the past, de facto censorship and political repressions in various degrees, the verbal narrative about the past played the role of intra-group legitimizing factor for the circles persecuted by the communist authorities. The verbal narrative also had the functions of means of identification and resistance. The text marks out certain points for reconstructing the verbal narrative by underscoring questions like when the story appears; who, with what objective and to whom tells the story; what is its subject-matter; what are its sources; how is it received. The text is related to the question of underground mythology created in communist times, as well as to the subject of the ratio between personal and collective (group) memory.
