Summary/Abstract: The Prison Service of the Czech Republic is an integral part of the state's legal policy and plays a crucial role in the fulfillment of imprisonment purpose. The public service should assist the convicted after the punishment to return to society, which should include educating and employing prisoners. The aim of the paper is to analyze the current state of prisoners employment rate. Based on qualitative research carried out in selected prisons, the main barriers to prisoners employment are the lengthy administrative approval process, the shortage of physicians conducting medical examinations, and the lack of convicted persons capable of working. Future challenges in the employment of convicted persons are the construction of assembly halls right in prison premises or directly in the neighborhood, the earmarking of funds from the construction budget and taking on prison staff and cooperation with business entities.
