Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the comparison of higher professional educational systems in the USSR and in modern Russian Federation. The traditional system with its methods and approaches as well as the system of scientific degrees and academic titles are described in the first part of this work. The wide variety of possibilities for applicants is also shown. Further, the author underlines that the lack of unemployment is the result of efficient government policy. The second part of the article deals with the changes in the higher professional educational systems in Russia connected with the Bologna Process. The advantages and disadvantages of the Unified State Examination are discussed. A modernized structure of the Russian Educational System according to the Federal Law is mentioned in the article. Some kinds of the challenges that graduates face nowadays are also given. The author compares the quality of knowledge in two educational systems: the traditional system and the multi-levelled one. In the conclusion, the author points out the problems caused by the division of the budget and the commercial base of education.
