Summary/Abstract: Freedom is a complex abstract notion about which everyone thinks in his or her own way, depending on the power of one’s thinking. Therefore, in order to adequately understand this notion, it is necessary to assign to it some more concrete features (marks), and make it clearer and more defined, and thus understandable for our minds. The notions are determined by the features that we notice, and that refer to their essence. Every notion has indefinite number of features, some of them being common or the some, some being completely different. In this way, we often categorize the notions that we notice as different essences into groups (categories) that have some common features. Thus, we categorize the people on the basis of color, race, nation, religion, sex, age, etc. We can see that each of these groups is formed according to some common feature of the members of the group, i.e. the feature that we notice, single out and name. People have the common essence because of which we name all people a group of rational beings. Some of them have a common feature (color, sex, age, etc.) according to which we classify them into the same category, and they also have personal marks (name, date and place of birth, appearance, fingerprint, etc.) so we notice them as different members of a group (certain category) of beings. By thinking in this way, we will see that all notions that we notice, actually possess a feature of freedom. Therefore, it is possible, according to that feature, i.e. the power of soul, to classify them into different categories of beings (notions). Using these principles, everything we notice can be classified into a category of beings according to the degree of freedom that it has.
