Summary/Abstract: The article highlights the threefold dilemmas surrounding the emergence and social transmission of the idea of sustainable development: terminological, concerning the transformation of the idea into social life, and connected with the vision of the future human being – the implementer of the idea. The text begins with a brief history of it, indicating the shifts concerning its implementation towards the education of children, adolescents and adults, not grounded in economic or political changes.
