Summary/Abstract: In this topic, we will talk about the mission, raising the security of archival material in case of eventual fire and applying the most advanced system for automatic and autonomous fire extinguishing with aerosol. The Municipal Archive of Prishtina is an institution that collects, protects, preserves, arranges, processes, publishes, presents and makes available archival material for professional and scientific purposes. Also, a special place in the mission of the archive is occupied by research-scientific activity and cooperation with local, regional and international archives. The archive is the collective memory of the history of a people, of a state and our common history. The building of the Municipal Archives of Pristina possessed an old system for extinguishing fire with water, not maintained and not functional and not suitable for its purpose, since water damages paper as well as fire. Being aware of the shortcomings of this system, there was a need to research some more advanced system, which would be friendly to paper but also to human health. After a continuous effort, in ongoing research, in contact and cooperation with Mr. Gazmend Kadriu, architect and certified expert for the automatic fire extinguishing system with aerosol, we came to a conclusion that: The most adequate system for eventual fire extinguishing for archives is the Automatic and Autonomous Aerosol Fire Extinguishing System. The aerosol is a substance in a solid state - potassium salt as the main substance enclosed in a metal box, with a 15-year shelf life, which, at the moment of activation, rapidly turns into very fine particles, seemingly like a fog, and which extinguishes very quickly the fire, without damaging the paper and without significantly reducing the amount of oxygen in the space. It does not have pipes or cylinders with high pressures like gas systems, which can be dangerous from explosion, but since the fire is located in the direct vicinity of theirs.
