Summary/Abstract: The protection of personal data is an important task dictated by the proper functioning of a democratic society. This task becomes even more difficult nowadays, as there is a rapid increase in information technology. The question arises: “How much are we asked to declare personal data?” Based on these conditions, this paper aims to highlight the importance of personal data protection, which is the legal basis for its functioning and the principles related to the processing of personal data. Also, the aim of this paper is to address the work of the archivist in dealing with personal data and the criteria for processing this data, the lawful processing of which is done by respecting and guaranteeing fundamental human rights and freedoms, and in particular, the right to privacy.
