Summary/Abstract: Positron emission tomography combined with computerized tomography is one of today's best diagnostic methods to obtain information on the function of internal organs with a small amount of radioactive drug injected into the vein as well as their anatomy and morphological changes. In addition to the many advantages of this method, there are some disadvantages, which are among the artifacts that may arise due to various causes, such as those caused by the patient, equipment faults, and the use of contrast media, which can all result in false results or misreading findings. The aim of the study was to determine whether the contrast can cause artifacts on PETCT scans. Methods: The study included a total of 50 patients that performed a PET / CT diagnostic examination at the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine and Endocrinology of UKC Sarajevo during the period of April 2017. The research was conducted as a retrospective-prospective type clinical study, which is by character of descriptive methodology. The analysis was carried out using the statistical statistics package for IBM Statistical SPSS v 21.0 sociologic research and preparation and presentation of results in Microsoft Word and Excel 2013 programs. Results: From total of the 50 surveyed subjects, there were 24 men (48%) and 26 female (52%), and the age range ranged from 19 to 72 years, with a standard deviation of SD ± 13 , 34. Of the total number of respondents (N = 50), 25 were using a contrast agent, while 25 had a diagnostic scan without the use of a contrast agent. Conclusion: The analysis of the PET/CT images obtained at the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine and Endocrinology KCUS determined that none of the subjects had an artifact on the images as a cause of the use of the contrast medium.
