Summary/Abstract: The article is a comparative analysis of two literary texts: Bolesław Prus’s Grzechy dzieciństwa (Sins of Childhood) and Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations. What these texts have in common is the narrator – a young boy who falls in love with a girl from the so-called upper class of the society. The emphasis is put on the psychological presentation of children and childhood. The article points out the similarities between the texts, Prus’s interest in Dickens’s work, but also crucial differences which affect the reader’s interpretation of the stories.
