Summary/Abstract: Wenceslas Scherffer von Scherffenstein was a prominent German poet who lived in Silesia in the 17th century. An important study in literary research was Jan Piprek's monograph written in the 1960s. In it, the author described the life of Waclaw Scherffer von Scherffenstein against the background of the socio-political life of the last Piasts in Silesia. The German poet translated as many as 138 of Jan Kochanowski's epigrams. Despite the differences that appear in the translations, the fact that Waclaw Scherffer undertook to work on such difficult and demanding material as the outstanding works of Old Polish literature by the Master of Czarnolas deserves to be emphasised.
