Summary/Abstract: This research presents a synthesized review of the main forming principles of the irregular rhythmic structures widely practised in Bulgarian musical folklore and their general usage in traditional rhythmic formulas of Brazilian musical genres samba and bossa nova. The possibilities for musical consolidation based on the metrorhythm, typical for both musical cultures, are considered. The musical analysis of a specific part of the author’s composition, „Rhapsody Tracia „, offers ways for comparison and cooperation between the metrorhythmic structures accepted in the music theory and the performance of Bulgarian folk and Brazilian popular music. The study examines alternative experimental methods to implement specific rhythmic models as a means of integration between musicians of different cultural backgrounds.
