Summary/Abstract: Writing always involves communication: between the reader and the writer, as well as between texts. Teaching writing should, therefore, help the students to understand and utilise this communicative function. One means of implementing this philosophy in education is shifting away from result-oriented teaching to process-oriented teaching. This involves dividing writing into different activities (most commonly prewriting, writing and reviewing) as well as giving and receiving peer feedback between those stages. In the article, we introduce the benefits of the process-oriented view on teaching writing and discuss its relevance to the Estonian educational system.
