Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the connection between virtue ethics and political philosophy of Socrates. This connection we find in Plato‘s book The Republic. The connection is analyzed among the understanding of justice, its benefit and human nature. The article provides argumentations by the opponents Trasymach and Gloukon who argue in favour of bad and evil human nature, what, according to the author, leads Socrates to search for such a political system, where virtues and social classes would match. Attention is paid to the utilitarian nature of Socrates‘s argumentation because of the emphasis on the need for common benefit. Attention is also given to the fact that Socratic intellectual idealism and search for the Goodness is without a reason put against teleological utilitarianism and functionalism. The author of the article notices that utilitarianism of Socrates is more related to the one of John Stuart Mill, rather than to the one of Jeremy Bentham, because Mill was concerned with the quality of benefit.
