Summary/Abstract: M. Römeris became an ad hoc judge of the Permanent Court of International Justice in the case of the interpretation of the Statute of the Memel Territory. He devoted many pages of his diaries to this case. In them, the lawyer reveals not only the details of the trial, but also his inner experiences regarding the judges of the Court and his position as an ad hoc judge. This study consists of a cycle of six articles due to the wealth of material: "The Origin of the Case and Preparation for the Court"; "In the Permanent Court of International Justice"; "In the Permanent Court of International Justice: Is it possible to remove the President of the Directorate from office?"; "After the return to Lithuania"; "The Court and the Judges". The title of the whole series of articles is "The Case of Interpretation of the Statute of the Memel Region in the Diaries of M. Römeris". In this article we present the inner state of M. Römeris during the consideration of this case, his relations with the judges of the Permanent Court of International Justice, the Institute of ad hoc judges, aspects of the judge's independence and the perspective of the author of the diaries to become a permanent judge of the Permanent Court of International Justice.
