Summary/Abstract: In the beginning, the author presents the new types of conflicts, the economic ones, which do not trigger the direct loss of lives, yet, make more and more “collateral victims”. Then, it is shown that the experience of the most recent conflicts worldwide shows that, after the failure of diplomacy and coercive diplomacy, states frequently resort to other instruments of power: information, economic and military ones. Moreover, it is mentioned that conflicts not only destroy infrastructure but also encourage crime, hinder investments and make normal economic activities impossible. Unfortunately, as long as there are wars, the military purposes will be more important than social or ecological issues. The social or surrounding environment will never be entirely protected from the military risks. Yet, considering the serious situations that may occur with time (to mention only global warming), one can consider at least the reduction of the devastating effects of war.
